Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Proverbs 31:9 ESV

And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.

Acts 18:9-10 ESV

Then the LORD reached out and touched my mouth and said, “Look, I have put my words in your mouth!”

Jeremiah 1:9 NLT

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Colossians 4:6 ESV

“ Speech has power. Words do not fade. What starts out as a sound, ends in a deed.”

- Abraham Joshua Herschel

I have always been intrigued with the concept of ‘voice’. It is a literal physical concept and also an abstract. The physical voice which gives sound to thousands of languages and the people that carry them is beautiful. The abstract voice which gives knowledge to beliefs, faith and ideas is what gives meaning to it all. I have grown up in a world witnessing these voices empowered, appreciated, admired and heard. Yet, in the same world I have witnessed voices unheard, suffocated, denied and misunderstood. I believe this is one reason I have been so drawn to languages which has led to a true enjoyment of practicing translation and interpretation for the two languages I know now; to play a small part in the communication, understanding and empowerment of the voices in this world and always striving to do so in a way that would honor God who has granted us these voices.
